How do I add a voice-over to a workout video without editing?
Short answer: Record or generate each line once and let the software place it. In Fit Cut Pro you give every exercise clip a spoken name and an optional form tip, and record the shared trainer cues once (“Next”, “Rest”, “Get ready”, “3, 2, 1, Go”, “Halfway”, “Last round”, “Well done”). Every Creator workout and every AI Editor video then says the right line at the right moment: the next exercise’s name in the rest before it, the tip at its first set, with the music dipping under each line. You can record a line in the browser, upload an audio file or type it for an AI voice, including one made from your own voice on Pro and Ultimate. Recording and uploading are free on every plan and the 14-day trial; AI voice lines use AI credits on paid plans, which start at $49.99 per month.
How it works
- 1
Give each exercise clip its lines
In Clips, click the voice icon on a clip. Name is said after “Next” (up to 4 seconds); Info is a form tip said once at the first set (up to 15 seconds).
- 2
Produce each line once
Click Produce and choose Record (in the browser, with a 3-2-1 countdown), Upload (an audio file up to 15 MB) or AI voice (type the text, pick a voice, Generate). Review it and click Use this.
- 3
Record the trainer cues
In the Voice side tab, open Voice studio, Trainer cues. They are shared by every workout.
- 4
Build or upload the workout and export
Build a plan in the Creator or upload a filmed class to the AI Editor. Voice cues are on per workout or project; the export mixes every line in at its moment.
Three ways to add a voice-over, compared
Record a narration over the finished video. Open the export in a general video editor, record yourself while it plays, then line the audio up with each set. It sounds personal, but every workout needs a new recording, and a single change to the plan means re-recording or re-cutting the audio.
Generate the narration with a text-to-speech or voice-over tool. Many editors and standalone AI voice apps turn a script into natural speech. You still write the script per video and place each line on a timeline by hand: generic voice-over tools are not timed to your sets, so “Next: burpees” has to be dragged into every rest yourself.
Attach timed cues to the exercises. This is how Fit Cut Pro works: the line lives on the clip, and the workout’s own timing decides when it plays. Build a new workout from the same clips and it speaks immediately, with nothing to place. The trade-off is that cues are short, structured lines (names, tips, Next, Rest), not a free-form narration.
What “without editing” means here
There is no audio timeline. At the start you hear “Get ready”, the first exercise’s name and a spoken “3, 2, 1, Go”. Every rest opens with the beep, then “Rest”, “Last round” before the final round, “Next” and the name, then the 3-2-1 beeps. If a rest is short, lines are dropped so nothing talks over the 3-2-1, and the name is kept to the end. Music dips under each line, and in the AI Editor your own recorded coaching dips too.
The Creator preview plays the cues live, so you hear the voice-over before exporting. The Editor preview plays the beeps, and the cues are mixed in on export.
When a full narration is still the better choice
If the video is a story, a programme introduction or a class where your live coaching is the point, film it with your own voice. The AI Editor keeps your audio, adds the timers and exercise names, and can add the timed cues on top only where you want them (Info and the spoken countdown are off by default there).
What it costs
Recording and uploading lines is free on every plan, the trial included. AI voice lines need a paid plan and cost 1 AI credit per started 250 characters per request; the trainer cues in a stock AI voice are free. Starter ($49.99 per month) includes 30 AI credits, Pro ($99.99) 100 and Ultimate ($199.99) 300, shared with FIT AI images and videos. On Pro that is enough to voice about 150 exercises, name plus tip, a month.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to record a voice-over for every video?
- No. Each line is recorded or generated once, on the clip or as a trainer cue, and every workout that uses the clip says it.
- Can I use my own voice without recording every line?
- Yes, on Pro and Ultimate. Read a script of about 90 seconds once after a consent step, and the AI speaks your cues in your voice.
- Does it work on a video I already filmed?
- Yes. Upload it to the AI Editor; a clip’s lines play when its name matches the exercise the AI detected.
- Will the voice-over drown out the music?
- The music dips under every line and comes back after it.
- Can I add voice cues to a live Zoom class?
- No. Voice cues are for Creator and Editor videos; the Zoom app and the Recorder do not speak them.
